The following news relate to the club’s activities immediately prior to the first lockdown.
The weeks of the school term from September through to Christmas have been very busy for the group, we had two sessions of Graffiti art with professional local artist Todd Wood. We had a session preparing pumpkins for Halloween then we made a wreath that was erected in the middle of the village as part of the commemorative celebrations.
Most recently local woodsman Mike Gregory lead the session in making Spinners.
We had visit from Paul Brown of Magic Mayhem on the 20th of November for a Balloon session followed by a circus workshop on the 27 we finished the year with a session of card making.
These were in addition to all of the club’s normal activities and built on the sessions of ‘mono printing’ and ‘rag weaving’ that we organised immediately prior to summer holidays.
We also said farewell to two of the young ladies who have been helping out at the club for more than a year, Louis and Jesse are both of to University.
There is a collage of photos of the arts sessions, the wreath, pumpkins and the group’s farewells to the two helpers, below.
The club is seeking support from any other people who would be interested in helping out at the club’s weekly sessions. We also welcome new members, aged 8 to 13, to our meetings at the Old School buildings from 18:30 to 20:00.
The club have always provided strong support for Remembrance celebrations.
In 2014 Local Artist Claire Norton painted the ‘shadow figures’ mural, that was used extensively by the BBC during the events, on to the large board.
The board was designed to allow people to fasten their own messages and memorials on to it to make it a real piece of history and a part of the community.
We were overwhelmed by the response with dozens of personal remembrance messages being pinned to the board..
We are grateful that the project has received financial support from Derbyshire County Council and has been assisted by Blue Rose Arts from Burton. We are also grateful to the many villagers who have assisted with creation of the poppies.
We also erected the Remembrance Board and provided poppies with plaques for villagers to write their own, personal messages. More than 120 villagers left personal messages.
